DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL AND INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS: BEYOND NATIONAL AND ACADMIC BOUNDARIES

After curriculum reform of 2011, the Department of Arts and Sciences was inaugurated as part of the senior division of the College of Arts and Sciences. The Division of Social and International Relations is one of the three main divisions that comprise the department. Each academic year a little over 30 students are enrolled.

The Division of Social and International Relations is comprised by (1) the Course in Interdisciplinary Social Sciences and (2) the Course in International Relations. While the two courses have distinct and unique curriculum, both are designed to approach a wide array of contemporary social issues from interdisciplinary perspectives. For this purpose, one must train a keen eye for research insight that is built upon thorough understandings of existing theories and mastery of analytical tools in multiple disciplines in social sciences. The department welcomes students, whose intellectual curiosity is not constrained within the boundaries of disciplines; anxious to explore issues and complexity of today’s world from a broader perspective; and perceive the challenge that societies face as opportunity. Graduates of the department pursue these opportunities in governments, multinational corporations, as well as in research.
